The Apostle Paul said
He could be all things
To all men,
An idea I put on
Like a splendid coat
The moment I heard it.
I have practiced long and hard.
I have managed to blend in to
Almost any forest of men:
---Dark mannered young men
Who can't seem to get through
an afternoon without bumping
A puffed up attitude
Against anything that moves.
---Or confident, well manicured,
Professional gentlemen
Who need you to know, without mention,
That the world needs assumed manners
And respected codes of conduct.
---Or beer bellied stevedores
Who can't help a gruff assumption
The world is a cruel place
And against them simply because
They are little educated,
But willing to do work lesser able,
More learned sissies
couldn't and wouldn't.
---Or some fanatic of every sport
Known to man, who has an opinion
About how each team and captain
And coach and player and every other
Fan, if they would only see his
Point of view and do as he is fully certain
Is the only obvious way to do it,
All would be infinitely better
Than in their current state.
---Or even the Republican
Who knows full well he could
Buy and sell me a thousand times over,
Who tolerates my existence because
I might be useful for keeping his
Hands from getting dirty.
I can be all things to all men.
I can meet them where they are.
I can appreciate then, each person
As just another way to do it.
